Gino's Ice Creams

  • Gino sells ice creams with his grandson every Monday, but unlike other street vendors, he chooses the flavours for his customers: an ice cream with the "taste of risk" for the shy young man, an ice cream with the "flavour of holidays" for the tired shopkeeper...

On a tricycle Gino and his grandson race through the town until they reach the seaside. The machine is well-oiled, and everyone knows what they have to do. Customers bustle in front of the little wooden cart until an elderly man arrives, asking for "an ice cream with the taste of childhood." "Childhood? Er… but I don't have that flavour," says Gino, quite flustered. "Never mind," said the old man. "I’ll come back tomorrow."

With the help of his grandson, Gino will have to create an ice cream with the taste of childhood as the old man said he would come back the following day.

A picture book that gently touches on the themes of transmission, the way a child views his grandfather, and how a grandfather reflects on his childhood...

The illustrations by Charlotte Molas deliberately reference the 1930s-40s style, Alain Grée being a notable influence.
