My Language Rights
Empowering children to cherish and protect their linguistic heritage.
My Language Rights dives into the vibrant world of languages in our communities, showing how language is more than just words — it carries our stories, memories, and culture.
Drawing on PEN International's Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights, this book champions every child's right to their own language. It highlights the importance of recognising language rights as fundamental human rights.
With engaging stories and vivid illustrations, My Language Rights inspires readers to appreciate multilingualism and how it enriches our shared experiences and knowledge. A must-read for anyone who believes in the power of language and the need to protect it.
THE AUTHORS
Judy Thompson is an Australian educator and author. Never living far from the sea, she is currently based in Alexandria, Egypt, with her husband and three daughters. A keen explorer and inquisitive conversationalist, she delights in the ways learning languages connect us whilst simultaneously allowing us to see the world through different lenses. Judy is a passionate supporter of bilingual children, and her teaching, her teacher training, and her books advocate acknowledging, valuing, and nurturing all of the languages of the classroom.
THE ILLUSTRATOR
Tete Garcia is a Spanish illustrator who has found her creative home in the coastal landscapes of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Tete’s work is all about joy, fun, and a splash of vibrant and bold colours! Her art captures the beauty of everyday life, celebrating quotidian situations and the serenity of nature with a captivating charm. When she’s not bringing her illustrations to life, you’ll find Tete crocheting away, exploring museums, sipping coffee by the beach, or trying to catch some waves while learning to surf.
