Sweet Reveries

This beautiful picture book is a unique ode to artistic and cooking creativity, combining illustration, poetry, photography, and pastry. It started with a quirky idea: making dreamed crazy cakes come true.

 

 

Discover the incredible looks and the joyful stories of 14 cakes such as the Dripping Delight, Icy Island, Swirling Mound, Hen’s Charlotte, Crispy Flower, Fluffy Magician or Fruity Madness. In her studio, Marie dreamed up crazy cakes. She turned them into gouache paintings, then sent them to Rebecca. In her kitchen, Rebecca ingeniously brought them to life as if by magic and wrote poems that joyfully told delicious stories.

 

One text evokes the dreamed-up cake, then another the cake that was made. A painting shows the imagined cake, a photograph shows the cooked cake.

 

This jubilant back-and-forth conveys a sense of shared delight, a lively energy that stimulates the desire to turn the page, to read the next part, to explore the next image, to uncover the upcoming challenge, to spot the differences, to start following the recipes or to joyfully invent others.
