The Chameleon Fish

  • A fantastic fishing trip told by a grandpa to his granddaughter.

Sequoia doesn't want to sleep, she wants to hear one more story! That day, begins her grandfather, the sea was smooth. There were no fish biting and the old fisherman was in a very bad mood.

A cheeky cormorant approached and landed on his boat. "No wonder that the fishing is bad," laughed the cormorant. The big chameleon fish has eaten everything and, hidden under your boat, it's digesting peacefully! The fisherman and the cormorant join forces to chase away the intruder...

In this lovely story, May Angeli once again takes us to the Tunisian coast, where the blue of the sea and sky merge in splendid in splendid woodcuts, and where the day's fishing, as experienced by the grandfather and told to his granddaughter, takes on the dimensions of a family legend.

May Angeli’s woodcuts were exhibited in 2021 at the French National Library in a full retrospective of her 60 years of work.
