The Friends Club 4

  • The Weeping Mountain

It's summertime! Tulipe, Crocus and Violette are back in the scorching heat, where they can't even play hide-and-seek. In such circumstances, there's only one remedy: a swim in the river!

But disaster strikes: the river runs dry. The survival of this small community is threatened. Without missing a beat, the Friends Club decides to set off in search of the springs in the Black Mountains.

Who is stopping the water from reaching the valley? Could it be the curious little people who love to tidy up everything between heaven and earth, including water and animals? Or could there be another source, as adorable as it is inconsolable, for all these misfortunes?

Whatever the sun, the Friends Club will be setting out to conquer the Weeping Mountain and solve all these mysteries!

    THE AUTHOR

Sophie Guerrive was born in 1983 in Marseille (France) and studied art in Aix-en-Provence then illustration in Strasbourg. She took part in various newspapers, magazines, fanzines. Since 2007, she has published several comic and illustration books. Besides her short and minimalistic stories influenced by comic strips like Peanuts or Mafalda, she also works on larger and very detailed drawings inspired by medieval illumination, oriental miniatures or Japanese prints. Her stories are often tinged with adventure and absurd humour, and feature her favourite themes: the marine world, initiatory journeys, the ancient and medieval periods, and visual and narrative symbolism.

"Absurd humour, a great delicacy tinged with melancholy, mixed with philosophical and existential thoughts [...] a unique talent for observing details - about things, about people" - Le Monde, about Sophie Guerrive's exhibition.
